styles of yoga
Gentle flow
A softer flow of simple yoga asana, starting with a gentle warm up, soft breath work and some standing and seated poses. Props and modifications are given for all levels. The focus is on unwinding with a long relaxation, yoga nidra and meditation.
led ashtanga
This is a wonderful, traditional yoga sequence for those who are looking for an established and strenuous yoga practice. In a led class the teacher will verbally and visually guide the student through a version of the primary series. Traditionally, Ashtanga yoga is practiced sequentially as progress is made by the student with some physical adjustments, to experience depth in the pose. This practice is demanding and heat building, moving rapidly, flowing from one pose to the next with each inhale and exhale. Each series of poses linked by the breath this way is called a Vinyasa
Restorative
Less work and more relaxation makes this a beautiful evening practice. You’ll spend as long as 10 minutes just doing a few simple poses, using strategically placed props, like blankets and bolsters, to help you sink into deep relaxation. Yoga nidra meaning 'Yogic Sleep' is akin to falling into a dreamless sleep whilst remaining awake. There is also an element of psychic cleansing; the mind is encouraged to empty and you should feel brand new and refreshed after.
VINYASA
An active style of yoga adapted from the traditional Ashtanga. Vinyasa yoga is more like a creative choreography of yoga poses because of the smooth way that the poses run together and become like a dance. The breath acts as an anchor to the movement as you flow from one pose to the next in time with an inhale or exhale. If you appreciate having things a little loose and unpredictable and you like to keep moving then this style is definitely worth a try.
Yin
A quiet, meditative yoga practice. Yin focuses on lengthening connective tissues and is meant to complement yang yoga which is a muscle building Ashtanga. Yin poses are passive, meaning you are supposed to relax muscles and let gravity do the work. And they are long — you’ll practice patience here.
YIN YANG
A balanced practice. The ebb and flow of breathwork and feminine, soft, ‘yin style’ opening yoga asana, gradually growing into a strong, deep and dynamic flow of masculine ‘yang style’. Closing with a delicious ‘yin style’ sequence, longer hold and releasing, restorative poses and light guided mediation. The movement of posture with breath sets a mindful and steady pace that progresses in intensity to a continual fluid movement, with a feeling of lightness, strength and spaciousness.
yin yang intensive
This introduction class will illustrate the beauty of a balanced practice. Over these special intensive sessions, we will connect to our physical self, using the four classical elements: Earth, Water, Fire and Air. We will creatively unlock tensions with both feminine ‘Luna’ and masculine ‘Sun’ energies and fuse this alchemy with the Hindu ‘chakra system’ to connect to our emotional and spiritual well being. Through this combination of movement, traditions and imagery we will create spaciousness to hear our own unique soul sound .
